I just.
I hate what the new DCU is doing so much.
Like.
I am actually tearing up a little bit here.
I don’t even know. So many characters lost, and finally to find out that Renee has been shelved, when I’d just discovered her character from Gotham Central and absolutely loved her and now she’s gone along with Connor and Mia and Lian and Steph and Cass and Sin and the West family and Obsidian and a bunch of other female and/or queer and/or POC characters, not to mention the loss of Babs as an iconic wheelchair user and I just.
I don’t even know why I’m bothering with DC anymore.
It feels like the only one I have left in the comics is Jason
If you can even call the horrible mischaracterization of him in Outlaws Jason
Or really any Jason who’s appeared since Countdown in anything but Red Hood: Lost Days
And fuck as much as I love him he is canonically a cishet white male and sure he’s from a lower class background but that’s only ever dealt with in classist as shit ways not to mention all the ableism that’s always used in his depictions, because the only time he’s allowed to be cast as dealing with mental illness is if he’s a bad guy and it’s being used to demean him
And the worst part is that all my anger and rage feels like it’s not going to amount to anything, because fuck if DC editorial actually gives a shit about some random multisexual girl who loves all these characters, or any fan who’s not a cishet white male who fucking loves the Silver Age, because that’s what all this bullshit is, pretending that they’re going to be “diverse” to reel in new fans while really erasing all of the diversity from the existing DCU and tossing in a few token characters who’ll just be erased come the next big event anyways because the only characters who ever survive those things are the goddamn cishet white men and a few women, because these are the only characters that are ever promoted and the characters who have been around forever and the only ones who are going to stay around because DC does fucking nothing to build up minority legacy characters or iconic minority characters beyond like two Black guys and a few women and then argues that it’s fine to erase all these minority chars because they’re not iconic and don’t sell but don’t worry, we have these new diverse chars, and they’ll last! (No they won’t.)
Ugh.
